What to engrave on a dog tag in the UK

Under the Control of Dogs Order 1992, any dog in a public place in the UK must wear a collar with the owner's name and address. A phone number is not legally required but strongly recommended. Most Bailey & Coco owners use this layout:

• Line 1: Owner surname
• Line 2: House number and postcode
• Line 3: Phone number
• Optional: the dog's name on the reverse, where the tag size allows

The dog's name is emotional, not legal. We include it when there is space, because identification feels warmer when it starts with a name.
