Your Yorkshire Terrier is tiny, brave and very opinionated about things going over her head. Our Yorkie harnesses are designed in the UK with a 3-clip, step-in fit that never needs to be pulled over those famous ears, so getting ready for the walk stays a happy little ritual rather than a wrestle.
Yorkshire Terriers can have delicate necks, so many owners prefer a harness that avoids unnecessary pressure around the throat when correctly fitted. Every harness here is designed to spread gentle pressure across the chest rather than the throat, with featherweight hardware, reflective strips for darker evenings, and adjustable straps that fit chests from around 30cm. Most Yorkies wear XXS or XS, but every dog is individual, so measure her chest and check the size guide on each product page. Our Yorkshire Terrier harness guide walks you through measuring in under a minute.
Because this is Bailey & Coco, the matching bit matters too. Pair the Sage Tweed harness with its lead and walking bag, or let her turn heads in Wanna-Bee. Strength tested to 250kg and loved by 40,000+ dog parents. Explore the full dog harness collection, see everything in Sage Tweed or Wanna-Bee, or read our small dog harness guide for more tiny-dog wisdom.
Yorkshire Terrier harness questions, answered
What size harness does a Yorkshire Terrier need?
Most adult Yorkshire Terriers wear size XXS or XS, fitting chest measurements of roughly 30cm to 38cm. Measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs, add two fingers of room, and check the size guide on the product page. Every dog is individual, so measure rather than guess.
Are harnesses better than collars for Yorkies?
For walks, many Yorkie owners prefer a harness. Yorkshire Terriers can have delicate necks, and a collar concentrates lead pressure around the throat. A well fitted harness spreads that pressure across the chest and shoulders instead. Keep a collar for her ID tag, which UK law requires, and clip the lead to the harness.
Will this harness go over my Yorkie's head?
No. Every Bailey & Coco harness in this collection uses our 3-clip, step-in design, so nothing ever passes over your dog's head or ears. She steps in, three clips close, and you are off. A no-over-the-head harness can feel much easier for small dogs who dislike anything being pulled over their face.
What is the best harness for a Yorkie that hates harnesses?
Usually it is not the harness they hate, it is the over-the-head part. A step-in design with a soft, lightweight build can change the experience completely. Start with short, treat-heavy sessions indoors, keep the first fit loose, then snug it to two fingers of room once she relaxes. Many converts take days, not weeks.
